Through the Depths of Darkness

Bounced around, home to home
New faces all round, but still he is alone
Lonely child asks Where is mom?
School to school, desk to desk
A child seemingly failing every test
You discarded him like he was trash
Had no idea this pain would last
Stronger than most, braver than the rest
A product of hardship and survival
Each day proves to be a new trial
He continued to fight, to take life’s tests
Right hook, left jab, spartan kick to the chest
He was simply born better than the rest
Served his country, Loud and Proud
Still, life kept trying to knock him down
Feeling like he can’t catch his breath
But not to overcome, would simply feel like death
Kicking & screaming you tried to drag him down
Little did you know, he was born with a powerful crown
A survivor he is, in the depth of his soul
He rises from the ashes, a tale to be told
Remember where you met him
Don’t forget that broken soul
Like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon
His metamorphosis will be complete soon
A cycle of change, hard work, and pain
Will create a gem like you’ve never seen
A new man emerges, stronger than before
Wiser than his years, an iron clad core
You’re best not to doubt him, you see
Through the depths of darkness
A true warrior has been set free.
